“I have spoke with the tongue of angels
I have held the hand of a devil
It was warm in the night
I was cold as a stone
But I still haven’t found what I’m looking for
But I still haven’t found what I’m looking for”
I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For – U2
I still haven’t found what I’m looking for, but I have learnt some valuable lessons along the way. One of them is to let go of things that don’t serve me. With the close of another year, here are a few things we can strive to LET GO of:
- Guilt – could have, should have, would have, but we can’t change the past
- Shame – when you know better you do better
- Anger – notice when you’re that angry person, you tend to attract angry people
- Expectations – no one owes you anything
- What people think of you – is only an opinion, doesn’t make it true
- How other people feel – you are not responsible for other people’s emotions, and they are not responsible for yours
- Accumulating material possessions – can’t take it with you
- Worrying about the future – there is only now
- People pleasing – not being true to yourself
- Fear – of things you have no control over
- Giving advice – must remember to give advice only if asked
- Waiting for others to do things with – just do it!
- Criticism of others – don’t judge others, we all have our flaws
- Criticism of self – if you’re going to eat that dessert, enjoy it, stop justifying or imagining your waist is expanding as you eat it 🙂
- Thinking you are always right – be kind instead. There are always two sides to everything
- Procrastination – maybe tomorrow?
- Waiting for the perfect time – do what you want now, tomorrow isn’t promised
- New Year’s Resolutions – every second is a chance to start again, give yourself permission to start again if you fall off the wagon
- Controlling your adult children – it’s their life to do as they please
- Controlling your parents – they’re a couple of decades ahead of us, been there, done that
- Negative thoughts because your thoughts create your mood. Think happy positive thoughts and see how your mood changes
What else can you let go of that is no longer serving you? At any moment you can choose to let go and start fresh. All you need to do is give yourself permission.
