I Can Buy Myself Flowers

Blog by: Lata Advani Viseu

“Started to cry, but then remembered
I can buy myself flowers
Write my name in the sand
Talk to myself for hours
Say things you don’t understand
I can take myself dancing
And I can hold my own hand
Yeah, I can love me better than you can”

Flowers – Miley Cyrus

Life throws many curve balls throughout our life and some of these curves can break us or make us stronger.

You can have a wonderful, happy life and suddenly disease and death or some other cause can take your loved one away from you.

It is hard to not get attached to things and people but really what are you afraid of losing when nothing in the world actually belongs to you?

If we can accept that we come into this world alone and will leave alone, we can feel the grief, but not let it break us. This detachment then will make it a little easier to bear any loss.

We are born to love, to experience life, to feel the emotions and yet accept that everything will come to an end whether by choice or by fate. The only person we have control over is ourselves. We are stronger and capable of more than we think.

If we can stay in the present, stop ourselves from living in the past and stop worrying about the not guaranteed future, life will be a lot easier because all we really have is NOW.

If we stopped depending on someone else to make us complete, to save us, to fulfil us and instead remember that we can buy ourselves flowers, life will be a little easier to navigate. All you need to do is decide and, in an instant, you can change your life.

Let go of things you cannot control and free yourself from attachment to things and people, especially the things you love because nothing ever lasts forever, just the memories, sometimes even that can fade.

I believe our purpose in life is to be happy, do things we enjoy, make happy memories with our loved ones as long as we can, use whatever gifts we possess to help others, make a difference and live in the present.

“The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation, but our thoughts and feelings about it.” – Eckhart Tolle

“When nobody wakes you up in the morning, when nobody waits for you at night, and when you can do whatever you want, what do you call it, Freedom or Loneliness?” – Charles Bukowski

“We are all one. Only egos, beliefs, and fears separate us.” – Nikola Tesla

“Your children will always be your whole world, but you’ll never be theirs in the same way”. – Anonymous

“Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.” – Kahlil Gibran, Lebanese-American poet

Like always u wrote beautifully. Its been just 20 days i lost my Mom so this resonates with me so much. But isnt it true that it is not easy to detach infact the Bhagvad Gita also teaches us that if u can detach yourself from the worldly illusions U r sorted. It was this month after Mom left I realised that once u lose a loved one u can never ever see them feel them or touch them. They just vanish in thin air. I can imagine u would be one to know this better. Ur positivity and your approach to life is a huge inspiration for me ❤

    Hello Lata:
As usual, you have touched my heart in so many ways with this month’s blog. I am guilty of holding on to the material things and always thinking about what more I could have done for my husband when he was living. I can’t believe that six months have passed since he passed, and my heart is still so broken. I have been going out and enjoying some musical events. I try to stay positive but I am not successful all the time. Blessings to you and your family. Edith

If you ever want to take some of the load off, I’d love to write some articles for your blog in exchange for a link back to mine. Please shoot me an e-mail if interested. Regards!
