“Did you ever have to make up your mind?
Pick up on one and leave the other one behind
It’s not often easy, and not often kind
Did you ever have to make up your mind?
Did you ever have to finally decide?
Say yes to one and let the other one ride
There’s so many changes, and tears you must hide
Did you ever have to finally decide?”
Did You Ever Have to Make up Your Mind? -The Lovin’ Spoonful
Some people get stuck in life because they’re terrified of choosing “wrong.” They wait for clarity, for certainty, for a sign that guarantees the outcome. And while they wait, years pass.
They stay in the same job, the same relationship, the same routine… still thinking, still weighing, still hoping the “right” answer will magically appear.
But life rarely works that way.
How many times have you thought about leaving a job that drains you, or stepping away from a relationship that no longer feels like home?
You make lists, you analyze the pros and cons, you ask friends for advice, and still, the fog doesn’t lift.
Even something as simple as choosing where to go on vacation can turn into a cycle of second guessing. Suddenly you’re comparing options, imagining every possible scenario, and feeling more confused than when you started.
The truth is, it becomes clear after the decision, not before it.
Experts say that almost any decision is better than staying frozen. Flip a coin, trust your gut, pick one path and start walking. Once you choose, your energy shifts. You stop thinking the same thoughts and begin moving toward something…anything. And movement is what creates momentum.
It’s the indecision that exhausts us. It’s the waiting that wears us down. It’s the fear of choosing “wrong” that keeps us stuck in places we’ve outgrown.
But once a decision is made, something softens, the stress loosens its grip. Your mind stops spinning. Your heart starts guiding you again and you begin to feel lighter.
And here’s the quiet secret no one tells you – you can always choose again. You’re not locked in. You’re not trapped. You’re not signing a lifetime contract with every yes or no.
A decision simply moves you forward, it opens a door, it teaches you something. It brings you closer to who you’re becoming.
Everything has a way of unfolding exactly as it’s meant to. So there’s no perfect decision, just the one you’re willing to make.
And sometimes the simplest way to find your truth is this: toss a coin. Not because the coin knows the answer, but because while it’s in the air, your heart whispers the outcome you’re secretly hoping for. That whisper is your intuition. That whisper is your direction.
Trust it. It has been guiding you far longer than fear ever has.
