Every Person Opens a New World

“So no one told you life was gonna be this way
Your job’s a joke, you’re broke, your love life’s D.O.A.
It’s like you’re always stuck in second gear
When it hasn’t been your day, your week, your month, or even your year, but
I’ll be there for you
(When the rain starts to pour)
I’ll be there for you
(Like I’ve been there before)
I’ll be there for you
(‘Cause you’re there for me too)”

I’ll Be There For You (Theme From Friends) – The Rembrandts

Every person is a doorway to another world.

There’s a line in the Friends theme song that talks about how life doesn’t always unfold the way you hoped, some days are hard and you feel stuck but underneath that is a reminder that a friend can show up for you and make things feel lighter simply by being there.

Every new person you meet has a story. Their life opens into a new world. I love discovering who they are, what shaped them, what makes them come alive.

It feels like stepping into another dimension, following a chain until you sense whether they might become a lifelong friend, a passing acquaintance, or someone you meet only once.

I’m drawn to people who are open and authentic, generous with their words and actions, willing to share their thoughts and feelings. The ones who carry good energy, who enjoy life, who make connections feel easy.

Some friendships last forever and others arrive later in life and some friends become family. You can often feel it quickly; it doesn’t take much effort when people are genuinely interested in getting to know each other.

Some people move more carefully. They hold their thoughts close and protect their feelings, afraid to open up. They keep their distance until trust feels safe.

My dad was one of those people who paid attention, he was generous and would give personalized diaries to family, friends, business contact or handwritten notes, little items that showed he truly cared. Through him, I learned how meaningful it is to notice people, to listen closely, to make others feel valued in quiet, meaningful ways.

But whether someone stays for a moment or a lifetime, each person is still a doorway, a new world. A chance to see life from a different angle. And when you look back, you realize that these small encounters are what carry you forward, one open door at a time.

If you’re lucky, as I am, to have an amazing circle of friends and a core group you meet and talk with often, you are truly blessed. These are the people who show up, who listen, who laugh with you, who remind you that life is easier when you don’t walk through all its doors alone.

In the end, every person we meet adds something to our journey. Some stay, some drift, some surprise us, but each one opens a small window into another way of living and seeing. And sometimes that is all we need to feel a little less alone.
