“Freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose
Nothing don’t mean nothing honey if it ain’t free, now now
And feeling good was easy Lord, when he sang the blues
You know feeling good was good enough for me
Good enough for me and my Bobby McGee”
Me & Bobby McGee – Janis Joplin
How often do we take a label someone gives us and carry it for the rest of our lives.
Maybe someone commented on your appearance or your weight or something you said or did. Maybe it hit you hard, like a ton of bricks, and you kept it deep in your heart.
The person who said it may not even remember. They may have tossed those words out casually, unaware of the impact. Yet you carried them, you let them shape the way you saw yourself or the world.
You internalized a label that was never yours to begin with, a label born from someone else’s opinion, someone else’s words, someone else’s limitations.
Most people are too busy thinking about themselves to remember the things that hurt you. So what labels are you still holding on to? And isn’t it time to loosen your grip and choose a different thought?
You are always one decision away from a completely different life. If a careless comment has been holding you back from living your true, authentic life, you can release it. You can choose again.
Turn your attention toward your strengths. Notice what lights you up. What brings you joy? What makes you feel alive? These are the things that reveal who you really are.
There is no one else like you. When you live as your true self, you naturally draw the right people, the right opportunities, and the right experiences into your life.
Authenticity is its own magnet. It frees you. It reminds you that you were never meant to live inside someone else’s label.
You were meant to live in the quiet honesty of who you already are.
